But I am generally not a fan of giving the government more intrusive power, especially when it comes to my First Amendment rights. Online piracy is a problem that needs to be dealt with, but these bills are not the answer.

just an update..
We are STILL at the hospital with plans to leave for home after lunch.My Mommy had a C-section and needed a little extra time and TLC.
Daddy has been a great helper..
Boy did I get lucky in the Parent department!!
I got the BEST!
I'm eating JUST FINE..
all systems are A-OK..
(My Gramma U has not edited the most recent photos..Tsk Tsk!!
maybe later today she can post more of my handsome mug with my parents...)
too bad she can't be there for my homecoming,,
oh well, there will be many more firsts..

I've Fallen in Love!!!
There's a new fella in my life!

Snips and snails..

that's what little boys are made of,,

Had a call around 4:30 Thursday afternoon from son Bran..
he and wife Jamie were out looking at something or other for their home..
His Message: " hey, Jamie's water just broke!"
Of course,as she was scheduled for a C-section for this Saturday, this minor event caught them totally off guard!
They had not a clue as what to do!
We asked,is Jamie's hospital bag in the car?
no..
Are you closer to home than to the hospital?
yes,,
Then drive carefully home, retrieve the bag..
and get to the hospital!
Immediately!..
which they did..
Daughter Heather called around 5:30..
as she was finishing her Nursing class at another hospital..
Bran had called for her to come and stay with him..
(they are very close, always have been)
Heather called again at 9:30..
or rather she picture mailed me ..
the photo of the most adorable little fella..

weight 5lbs 4oz..17.5 inches long

Altho there was little sleep or rest due to hospital routines..
here's the happy Daddy Bran and baby Brax,,..
Mommy Jamie is trying to rest a bit..

With the weird weather of the past 48 hours..
seems like the entire country has been plunged into a deep freeze..
altho scenes such as these are so pretty to look at..
through the window from inside a toasty warm home..
while sipping something nice and warm..

donned in fluffy robe , slippers and jammies..
or comfy sweats..
all perfect for lounging about in front of the fire..

or curled cozily into your favorite chair..
book in hand,

furbaby at your feet...

Perfect ways to cure winter time doldrums..

temps were extremely low in Florida..
in fact, were warmer here in Denver than back home!!
I would so rather be testing the waters of a tropical beach..

I recall so many good things which occurred..
many wonderful new friendships begun..

I'm happy with who I am..
My station in life..
the love of a wonderful man..
and family..both his and mine.
2012 promises to be just a continuation..

A Timely and True Story..

My niece Jennifer and her family today..
This is her story, told by her friend Shannon..

Those of you who know me personally know that I have one child by birth. My lovely daughter Margeaux. Some though, don't know that I have another family. Jennifer Holland came into my life when she was 17 and I was 27. I became the grandmother to her children since she lost her mother to cancer when she was 12. Their names are Farrin, Shaylynn and Billy.

2005 they went to a Christmas parade. On the way home they were hit by a drunk driver. Billy, my five year old grandson will never be the same. He almost lost his life and had to live without his skull cap for almost a year since his brain had swollen do to extensive injuries. My granddaughter Shaylynn's leg was broken and Farrin....well, Farrin is now 16. This Christmas she gave her mother a letter. The letter was about her life. She wrote from the time she could remember until this year. I read the letter and could not stop myself from crying. The drunk driver who hit them has now died from a liver disease. What he left in the wake of his life will forever show its damages to my grandchildren. Billy has half the use of the left side of his body. His ability to learn is much slower than it should be at 11. Shaylynn has healed but will never forget the terror of that night and Farrin.....Farrin wrote in the letter that her reality is she may never be able to carry the weight of a child growing inside her. Her broken hips have given her little ability to live life without constant pain.

Their mother Jennifer.... It is not always easy to get her to tell you what her injuries were. She doesn't focus on what she went through except for the emotional pain of watching her children suffer. I kow though that she lives in a prison of pain that she cannot escape from. Rarely though does she ever complain. Her cup is half full because she knows she has the life of her children and so many mothers have lost their own families to drunk driving.

I have been guilty of driving with a buzz. I was lucky I didn't kill myself or anyone else. Being intelligent, fun, cool...that has nothing to do with stupidity and having the willingness to take someone else's life. You can take someone else's life without stopping their heartbeat. You can do it by marring them for life.

I am making the choice to not be that person.

Remember...
There is no such thing as an accident if you are drinking and driving. You make the decision to drive impaired before you get drunk. You make the decision with a clear head to live with your choice or to die with it.

foot surgery update

Hello all..
About the surgery I had this morning..
had to be at hospital at 6am..
no makeup,comfy sweats..
met with all members of the surgical team..
outstanding, one and all..highly efficient!
*7:38.am, cold in surgery room, but had warm blankies covering most of me..
*anesthiologist and i chattered.
I was under the effect of MJ's drug..it felt nice and relaxing..
*Propofol: a prescription sedative-hypnotic drug (brand name Diprivan) that is administered intravenously. Propofol is commonly used in the induction of general anesthesia and can be used both for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. When administration of the drug is discontinued, it wears off rapidly, allowing the patient to awaken within a short time. Like other anesthetic agents, side effects of propofol can include respiratory depression. Propofol should only be administered in controlled settings in which ventilation support and monitoring of cardiovascular function are available.
foot was drugged with Novacaine/lidocaine..didn't feel anything!
actual surgery.. just a bit over 30 minutes!
wheeled out in wheelchair at 9:30
back home by 11..
stopped by Burger King for sausage biscuits..
was famished..had not eaten since 7:30 pm the previous nite!..
FYI:
*incision and removal of Morton Neuroma..

this was the SECOND such surgery in 2 years..
the first was through the top of my foot..
this one through the BOTTOM of my foot
(i am under the effects of heavy duty meds so please excuse any goofy typos..)
Prognosis: 80% chance of no recurrence or problems..
(how I pray i am in this group!!)
Causes:
Experts are not sure what exactly causes Morton's neuroma. It seems to develop as a result of irritation, pressure or injury to one of the digital nerves that lead to the toes, which triggers a body response, resulting in thickened nerve tissue (neuroma).

Feet conditions/situations that can cause the bones to rub against a nerve include:
High-heeled shoes - especially those over 2 inches (5cm), or a pointed or tight toe box which squash the toes together...(spent a good deal of my adult life in HIGH HEELS! Mine developed when working on MARBLE floors for 8 hours at a stretch!!) This is probably why the condition is much more common in females than in males.
High-arched foot - people whose feet have high arches are much more likely to suffer from Morton's neuroma than others. (that's me to a T!)
Flat feet - the arch of the foot collapses. The entire sole of the foot comes into complete or near-complete contact with the ground.
A bunion - a localized painful swelling at the base of the big toe, which enlarges the joint.
Hammer toe - a deformity of the proximal interphalangeal joint of the second, third, or fourth toe causing it to be permanently bent.
Some high-impact sporting activities - including running, karate, and court sports. Any sport that places undue pressure on the feet
- Surgery - if other therapies have not worked it may be necessary to perform surgery. As surgery may result in permanent numbness in the affected toe, doctors ten to use this procedure as a last resort. However, in most cases surgery is extremely effective.
  The patient usually receives a local anesthetic.
  Surgery involves either removing the nerve, or removing the pressure on the nerve. Two surgical approaches are possible:
- The dorsal approach - the surgeon makes an incision on the top of the foot, allowing the patient to walk soon after surgery, because the stitches are not on the weight-bearing side of the foot.
- The plantar approach - the surgeon makes an incision on the sole of the foot. In most cases the patient will be in crutches for about three weeks. The resulting scar may make walking uncomfortable. However, with this approach the neuroma can be reached easily and resected without cutting any structures.
  There is a small risk of infection around the toes after surgery.
- Okay..have had both now..ready for relief..forget the crutches,,i'm staying in,using a much more stable WALKER! and above all.. FOLLOWING DOCTORS ORDERS!
- time for pain meds and ice behind my knee..am in a stablizing boot which comes early to my knee!
- hugs to all!!

that's the time I'd had enough..
back in the NOW..
movement outside my window catches my eye..
it is birds....many birds..

flitting to the evergreen tree on the other side of Ernies' house..
glancing around his snow covered roof..
I see his bare-limbed Maple glistening in the early morning sunlight..
seemingly bathed in diamonds..

the birds are very actively swooping in and out between our rooftops..
perhaps they've been sampling the dried fruit in the Crabapple tree out front?

Geez! one almost hit my window just now!!
wow!! brought me right back to reality!
time to get a move on..
coffee is over and done..
time to get out of this wonderfully relaxed mode of jammies..
and fuzzy slippers..
all wrapped in a warm fuzzy robe..
on a cold wintery Sunday morning..
one last glance out the window...

As I watch these beautiful moments unfold..
I'm thinking..
Our Creator sure knew what he was doing..
did't He?
with a smile on my face..
and a song in my heart..
I'm off to enjoy yet another joyful day..
Thankful..for this present from my Maker..
what a beautiful Gift I've received and opened!!!

About those Lost Photos..
after trying every technique known to me..

and all those from well-wishing friends and unknowns..

especially after weighing the VALUE of the photos to me..
I bit the bullet and went to a local computer service..
for HELP in possible retrieval/recovery.
the cost in $$..$30.00 per half hour.

As I waited in agony, they finally called..
Sorry, they could not find my missing Photos..
Could I come down and SHOW them exactly what I did?
and Oh Yes, please bring the memory card..
I did all the above..
finally got a techie/geek to come out from behind the scenes..
he did a bunch of stuff..
but talking DOWN to me as if I'm an idiot..
which I assured him in no uncertain terms I was NOT!
still could not find the pics..
nonchalantly in my best Blondeness,

I said:"I thought you folks were like Techies at work..
where a particular computer user could be followed..
by every site visited..
each particular day..
why are you not doing that in this instance?"
his response.."I have no idea what I'm looking for!!"
absolutely floored me!!
I pointed to the service order and said:
"You are to be retrieving my lost photos,
which I downloaded from a memory card..
(imported into Picasa program) on a specific date!
Seems like to me that should be an easy task ..
as I only downloaded one huge batch of photos..
on that particular date in time!"
To which..he immediately typed a bunch of codes..
and up popped files..
date and time stamped!
which when opened:
were my missing PHOTOS!!!!
I have no idea the sequence he used to open up the files..
and he would not tell me slowly what he did..
(this could be from the service program which their company uses)..
I just don't know..
but this I do KNOW..
I will NOT download/import any future photos into the laptop!
I WILL carry an abundant supply of memory cards from now on..
I will NOT deal with Best Buy Geek Squad or Dell Service ever again..
final cost? $60.00..
for my sanity: Priceless!!
Bottom line..when in doubt about any problem..
weigh your options..
compare..
pray..
consult with the experts..
and PRAY both for those solvers of the problem..
as well as for the problem to be solved..
then give a prayer of thanks..
this is the season of miracles!!
and NOW ..

Last nite, after an unexpected delightful phone call from a cousin down in middle Florida..

i began searching for requested photos of family members..

In the course of that search, I stumbled upon quite a few "forgotten" photos..

which led me down memory lane..again..

and again!

Funny how the Holidays seem to trigger our most basic of beloved memories..

those so cherished..

and at times, painful to remember..

yet stored away in the most protected corners of our hearts..

last nite opened my heart..

and the teary floodgates flowed..

for loved ones no longer here on earth in the physical sense.

now..spending eternity in their heavenly home...

i wept for friendships lost..

because of whatever reason..

silly..too lazy to keep up..distance..interests outgrown/changed..

but because i am a photographer..

and never EVER toss photos..

my files are bulging at the seams..

and each time as i view them again..

the images spring to life on my screen..

and i remember..

that particular moment frozen in time!

Such is the case with these..

was living/stationed in Newport Rhode Island at the time..

his kids were coming up for Christmas..

Up from Brunswick GEORGIA!

Amy wanted to play in SNOW..

Her brother was open to anything outdoors..

As Newport was totally devoid of snow at the time..

we headed up to Brunswick MAINE to visit friends..

they assured us there was PLENTY of snow..

everywhere!

the four hour drive passed quickly..

and we arrived safely to our friends' house..

and settled in..

next morning.. out to the hilly golf course..

to the best sledding hill in the area..

with kids and toboggan sled in tow..

unabashed FUN ensued!!!

laughter..followed by snowball fights..

dares on the toboggan rides..

good clean winter fun!..

and by chance.. we caught the eye of someone with a camera..a local newspaper reporter/photographer who was there...enjoying the colorful scene..of sledding kids!

she came over to ask permission to use photos taken/get names of the kids.. thus learning of the connection between the two Brunswicks..

we ended up being the lead story and photos in the Lifestyle section!!!

Yep..that's me ..Brunswick, Maine 1986

1986..with Amy,

then step-daughter up visiting from Brunswick, Georgia

sadly, divorce is not pleasant..

and as is most often the case,

it is the love for and of those extended family members which is lost..

Amy was a case in point..

my heart still remembers the funtimes we shared over the course of my many years with her dad..

as i watched her grow from sensitive youngster,

treading through treacherous teens into young adult..

and lastly ..a Mom..a very loving mom!

I like to think she still carries a bit of me within her memories..

and maybe, just maybe, some of my positive reinforcement stuck with her..

In the present,

my new world includes a very caring and loving hubs,

his two grown "kids"..three grands..

with a fourth due anytime..

hopefully before year's end..

and finally..my/our three feline furbabies..

as well as making/creating new ones..

here in the present..

moment by moment..

Christmas..Do You Believe?

Christmas is that most magical time of the year..
or it was..
as a child, from the first of December I was antsy with anticipation..
on my best behavior as we counted down the days..
finally putting up the tree..
and in my heart..
above all..
I believed..
in miracles..
I believed in the beauty of the birth of the Christ child..
believed he was born in a manger on that cold December night..
That his birth was and still is the REASON for the Season..
I loved everything about the Season of Christmas..
the sights..the sounds.. the smells..
the giving..
from the heart..
the love for our fellow man,woman and child..
all critters both big and small..
for those less fortunate..
Somewhere along the way..
the vision of Santa became intertwined in the Christmas vision..
very confusing for a child..
yet I still believed in my Religious views.
as well as Santa being equated with toys/gifts..
perhaps as with the Three Wise Men, bearing gifts from afar..
but as I've grown older..
and Commercialization has loomed to the forefront..
I've become more and more frustrated with the "political correctness"..
especially regarding this particular holiday..
everywhere I look, I see not CHRISTmas..
but HOLIday...which is but a derivative of HOLYday..
all religious icons are banned from public places..
which is supposedly politically correct in separating government and religion?
Was not our great nation founded upon Freedom of religion?
I find the outspoken MINORITY are controlling OUR freedoms..
I believe in seeing Christmas displays, both religious and traditional..
wherever WE THE PEOPLE are..
in private sector homes..
public buildings,government buildings,shopping malls..
schools, churches..
above all..
I believe we are at a turning point in our history as a Nation..
if WE are not restored to the "One Nation Under God" premise as our founding fathers worked so diligently setting up so long ago,
then I personally foresee this great nation totally collapsing..
into utter Chaos..
which has already started with the economic downturns, the loss of jobs, homes, and retirements..
This next year will be one of the most important and pivotal in our country's election history..
our choice of a leader will determine the status of our nation..
whether Under God..
or falling farther and farther downward..
I pray for you,
as well as myself,
for guidance in making the right choice..
In all of this , I so fervently believe...

This time it involves my vacation photos..
i downloaded a very large number of pics..
from the sandisk memory card into the laptop..
the computer filed the photos into a locked folder..
which I cannot access.. nor open..nor upload nor view/
the computer will also NOT show by date that the pics are there..
but while trying to navigate, I had a message telling my all the above cannots..
and it deleated everything on my memory card..
can any of you out there assist me in retrieving my photos
would you mind via remote access..?
if you can help please leave me a message with your e-condtact..
I promise to acknowledge ASAP!

a Wednesday Celebration

Today, December 7,
marks a very memorable historical event.
Seventy years ago the Japanese fighter planes launched an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
At 7:55 on the sunny morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941, 183 Japanese warplanes swooped out of a cloudless sky and demolished the US Pacific fleet docked at Pearl Harbor. It was this single catastrophic event, not the invasion of Poland, the Battle of Britain or the persecution of the Jews, that finally dragged the United States into World War II.

Moving forward a few years later to December 7, 1949,another war was being waged.
A newcomer into our home was being welcomed by our Parents..however, Jim the brother was having none of that. At 18 months old, he was NOT ready to give up his place as baby and favorite in the family..

(that's me and Jim playing in the washtubs.
Di is in Diapers and Jim is still not wanting her around!)
Her name was Diane..
a black eyed beauty who could easily steal your heart..and that she did!
From the earliest, she and I were allies..
and still are to this day..
It was not until we became adults,equals, that our bond truly connected us..

Our mom passed away when we both were in our 20's..
It was at that time Di became the matriarch of our family. While I was busily gallivanting around the world as a Navy wife, it was she who "kept the home fires burning". Home was Di's..
Whenever the opportunity arose , it was to her house I headed. And a reunion was always in the works..
She is very strong.. an earth mother..

but tenderly loving all the downtrodden ..
whether two-legged or four-legged .

She, like our Mom became a Registered Nurse.

Later ,a Master's Degree in Environmental Management charted her course in another direction, yet still on the same path to saving our world.

Her professional accomplishments are numerous.
She is active in her community in so many ways, often from behind the scenes, conquering the lesser wanted of tasks..yet contributing to the whole, making it complete.

and at others, being the steadfast leader.
Can you tell I am her biggest supporter and Fan?
At times, we can have some very heated "discussions" regarding our differences of political and/or religious opinions.
BUT.. the bottom line remains..
She is my SISTER,
not of my choosing , but God given..
and he knew just the right one to pick for me!

Today, I celebrate HER special day..
with Love, and Joy..
and thanks for being my very bestest friend..
in the whole wide world..

Hello December!!!

On this cold December 1st..
simple and random thoughts..
while looking out my window as often I do..
towards Ernie's beautiful maple..
today, the contrast is quite stark..
the limbs are dark..

and bare of all but a few remaining leaves..
the inquisitive squirrel has not popped by..

not even appeared to peer back at me!!
haven't seen the bobtailed one either..
the view is partially obscured..
no beautiful blue backdrop..

or even a cloud..
just a lighter shade of grayness..

and the already accumulated 3-4 inches..
of newly fallen snow on his roof..

SNOW..
falling, blowing almost sideways..
for most of the day..
.
to be followed by frigid cold for the next week..
no reason for me to be out and about..
too much to be done indoors..

nice, toasty, warm..

smelling all Christmasy from candles..

The photos below were taken recently at Inlet Beach,Camp Helen State park in Florida by locals who saw the buck struggling in the surf. Deer in that area, which is surrounded by VERY upscale homes, are not wary of people.. thus the seemingly endless posing for the camera..
Although the deer is NOT of the Reindeer Variety, this does bring thoughts of Christmas to our minds..

Thanksgiving thoughts

Thanksgiving..
..the mere word instantly brings images to mind of the very first Thanksgiving celebrated so long ago. I see Pilgrims with clothes of homespun alongside leather clad Indians , combining the bounties of fields and forests on a cold November day. A celebration of survival after a very harsh year in a new world,freedom from persecution, freedom of religion. On this day, two very different peoples came together, respecting their unique differences, to celebrate as one,, grateful Americans..

The tradition has continued with each succeeding generation adding it's own special touch to the time honored traditions. Although different foods combine to make the meal,the basics remain the same.. a food laden table, family and friends gathering together to express their thanks for yet another year of survival in this often strange world..

Growing up in the south, Turkey was not on our menu..Ham was the center of attention, complemented by garden vegetables, crowned by scrumptious pies of Pecan and Sweet Potato.. there was ALWAYS plenty food for any and everyone.

I recall Daddy bought our first television in 1955,

but cannot remember the exact date of seeing the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Vivid memories of watching it while helping Mom prepare the dinner are quite strong.

After becoming a young married,we began our own traditions..which set of parents did we host..or whether to go to their homes to celebrate. Eventually, after the birth of our son,a solution worked itself out. leaving us a day to begin by watching the parade in the morning, and football games in the afternoon.culminating with an evening dinner at one of the parents homes.

Later , as a military spouse, I found myself far from home and very nostalgic. Holidays became even more important as they signified the link of love to home and family. On Thanksgiving, single service members were invited to join us to celebrate.
Food or drink could be contributed to our meal..

The one constant in this day was the joining of hands as we offered our prayer of thanks for another year of survival..and remembering loved ones no longer in our circle of hands..

Thanksgiving was also THE DATE to have Christmas cards and packages ready for mailing ..Shopping for me was done on the local economy, by CATALOG, or simply handmade..

Personally, I have no idea when and where the Black Friday shopping frenzy began, nor do I like the crass commercialization of the holidays beginning with Halloween, continuing through Christmas..
At our house, we celebrate each holiday for itself, no combining or overlapping.
(my sis Di,has a birthday on December 7,and as a child was given one gift " for her birthday AND Christmas" so we do NOT do any Christmas until after her birthday)
I much prefer the simpler times ,

and traditions..begun by family ..
Where experiencing the excitement of the season,and joy in the children's eyes and the peal of their laughter..as they truly believe..

from our house to yours..
we wish you the bounties of the season,blessings from above..
and the love of friends and family.. both near and far.
Happy Thanksgiving!

the thermometer says 30ish..

there are a few remaining golden leaves glittering in the sunlight..

Day 2..
Yesterday, my first night and day back in Denver..
sure was wishing for Florida..
especially those 80 degrees on the shore..
kinda rough waking up to 12 degrees,

nor have I downloaded the other 4 FULL memory cards to the desktop..
so busy wading through correspondence..
but hopefully will be able to begin posting pics again over the weekend..

From Florida with Love..
Today..
my last day at "home" in Florida..
have enjoyed each and every moment of being here the past two weeks.
It is always such a "high " experience for me..
seeing family of course..
and friends who really are family, just from different parents...
I've so many stories to relate..
some will bring tears to your eyes from sheer joy..
others, the tears will be from sorrows..
interspersed throughout is the joy I find/found in each new day/moment!
I have not posted many photos or posts because of technical problems with the computer,,
(It ATE my downloaded/uploaded photos and has not yet regurgitated them..a rather hefty heaping helping! NO MORE pics will be given this greedy monster until I return to Denver and consult techie Guru!)
Now I have several memory cards..all FULL... to download and edit!!
am headed out to Seaside on Beautiful 30A for a bit of play with my trusty Nikon..will meet up with Beachkat from Destin for a late lunch..
My dear sweet friend Margo is under the weather,, so no meet up this time..unless?

Girls given equal rights to British throne under law changes

The law changes must still be approved by individual Commonwealth governments

London (CNN) -- Sons and daughters of British monarchs will have an equal right to the throne under changes to the United Kingdom's succession laws agreed to Friday, British Prime Minister David Cameron said.

The leaders of the 16 Commonwealth countries which have the queen as head of state approved the changes unanimously at a Commonwealth of Nations summit in Australia, he said. The individual governments of those 16 countries must still agree the law changes for them to take effect.

Princesses to get fair share of throne

The constitutional changes would mean a first-born girl has precedence over a younger brother. They also mean that a future British monarch would be allowed to marry a Catholic.

The laws would apply to any future children of Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, who married this year.

Speaking alongside his Australian counterpart Julia Gillard in Perth, Cameron described Friday's agreement by the heads of government of the 16 nations as "something of a historic moment."

Attitudes have changed fundamentally over the centuries, he said in a televised address, and outdated rules should evolve with them.

"The idea that a younger son should become monarch instead of an elder daughter simply because he is a man, or that a future monarch can marry someone of any faith except a Catholic -- this way of thinking is at odds with the modern countries that we have become," he said.

"Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen. "

Cardinal Keith O'Brien, leader of the Catholic Church in Scotland, said he welcomed the plans to reform the Act of Settlement.

"I am pleased to note that the process of change, which I hope will lead to repeal of the Act has started and I look forward to studying the detail of the proposed reforms and their implications in due course," he said in a statement.

Queen Elizabeth is in Australia for the three-day Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The Commonwealth is an association of 54 nations with ties to the United Kingdom. Only 16 share the queen as head of state.

A picture really is worth a thousand words.

Truthfully, though, those pictures may each be worth far more.images

There really is no way to adequately measure or value the power of a photo to preserve our memories, stories, legacies.

One project that has caught traction and gone 'viral' (yes, a very Web 2.0 concept) is Dear Photograph.

The concept is simple, really... Take a physical print (photograph) from the past to the location where it was shot, hold up the image and photograph that photograph in the location ... in the present.

When Dear Photograph founder Taylor Jones was looking through photo albums with his family, he noticed his younger brother was sitting in the same spot where a photo of him had been taken years before. He held the album photo up, took a new picture and posted that new photo on his site at the domain dearphotograph.com, which he'd only just registered in May.

Perhaps the most viewed posting thus far is this one:

The concept is brilliant, really, and simple and terribly hard to turn away from. Even the least nostalgic can't help to get a bit misty-eyed at the photos of now grown children when they were but tiny toddlers.

There are only 7 pages to browse through (so far). You really need to get to this site, browse each page...savor each photo.

It's a rare image that makes you sit and consider your own life, relationships and memories. This is one site that is chock full of just those kind of images. It makes you want to hug your kids, call (or visit) your aging parents, reach out to your siblings, crack open a cabernet and sit around in nostalgic bliss.

I've got countless digitized images accumulated over the years (some true digital and others scanned from prints). After spending an hour savoring the images and captions on Dear Photograph, I just want to sink into all my images and reminisce.

The future's quite bright for Mr. Jones. He's rumored to have recently signed with a literary agent in Los Angeles to get a book set up on these images and the concept. His site continues to grow, with over 33,000 Facebook 'fans' and nearly 8,000 Twitter followers. In a late update, as I type this, I'm being told the site has also been featured on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer (tonight). All the best to Mr. Jones and his site.

This one will be on my daily visit list, for sure. Definitely!!!

How about a Feel Good Story?

Looking out my window,
I see sunshine, blue skies..

both illuminating my neighbor's 50 year old maple tree..
all gloriously garbed in hues from glaringly gaudy golds...,,
to the softest of gentle greens and palest yellows..
all arranged ever elegantly among shadowed branches..
the temperature is still under 40 degrees..
with a promise of a possible high in the low 50's..
Autumn definitely has arrived here..
Making such a Grand entrance..
decked to the nines in all her glorious shades..

both in the high country..

as well as in downtown Denver..

next month will find me relaxing..

rejuvenating my soul on my native soil..

toes buried in the sugary white sands ..

being caressed by the crystal clear, ever changing waters..

of the Emerald Coast of Florida..

better known to me,as Paradise rediscovered!

But back to our regularly scheduled program..

Today..I want to share something that really made me feel so good inside.

So good..it MUST be shared!

pull up your chairs..maybe a box of tissues..and your favorite beverage..

Me..for once,having NOT my usual iced tea ..

In honor of Autumn, I'm enjoying a cup of hot spiced apple cider!

Here's the story..a true one because it is mine..

Years ago, I had a dear sweet friend who married just out of high school and had three babies in almost 2 years..those darling babies were Michael, Matthew, and Maria.

The Mom, we'll call her Laney, was a classmate of my sister's.

Any way, as with most youngsters who marry and have too many babies too quickly , the marriage failed before the Maria was born.. Fast forward to 4 years later..

Divorce has already occurred, Mom is in nursing school with my sis, and I have the pleasure of babysitting these darlings..and it truly is a pleasure having these guys to play with my son Keith.

Life rocks on, Mom graduates with her Registered Nurse degree.. By now, the father who has but could care less about joint custody, is finally beginning to insist upon having the boys with him.

Laney, by now has met a dashing Navy pilot who has swept her off her tired aching workaday feet, proposed marriage..sans the boys..before he transfers to his next duty station. Both parents, meet with the attorney to work out details of custody modification..and Laney and her handsome pilot marry and become a family with Maria. Off they go to Europe to their new life at his new duty station.. to live happily ever after..

A year later,I receive news that a new child, a baby brother for Maria will be born within the year.. but first they will be taking an extended vacation, traveling around Europe. Partway into their journey, I'm contacted at work by the father of the boys. His message chilled me to the bone..He said " you can come and get these little bastards..or I'm turning them over to the state!"

What a dilemma ..my mind is racing frantically as I dial MY attorney to ask for advice! He says " agree to meet him and pick up the children. Their safety is of our utmost concern! " He is busily drawing up "paperwork" for me to become the temporary legal guardian until I can make contact with Laney!

With the boys in my care and custody, I enlist the assistance of friends to help me.

Sometimes I take them to work with me, other times, leave them with friends sworn to secrecy! All the while, my attorney is frantically trying all legal channels to contact Laney. Finally, through the International Red Cross,they are located.and contact is made. Given the urgent message left to call me, I explain the severity of the situation when her call is finally received .

Because the boys are not her Pilots natural or adopted children, nor legally his military dependents, there is a lot of red tape to be cut and bureaucracy with which to be dealt before the children can even leave the country.
In the meantime, I have the boys.. who were quite filthy when I picked them up..
the first thing they asked was for haircuts..and baths..and Popsicles! Each and
every wish was granted..except Popsicles were eaten before the bath!

For the next three months, while channels were being cleared and preparations for their departure were being made, we quickly settled into our routines for day and night. They had always called me Mommy Lou..after dinner and bath time, I tucked them into my bed ..and read them happy stories, snuggling and showering them with much needed love..kissing each goodnight as sleep gently carried them to dreamland..
They were eagerly happy to see their mom when they arrived..

I sadly kissed them goodbye as off they flew to their new home in a new faraway world.
Over the years, Laney and I kept in contact as best as possible. By now, I'm also a Navy spouse living on opposite sides of the world. Occasionally though, our worlds do coincide as we meet back at our home town.. Finally they settle in San Diego..as I am back in Florida .
Years pass. School photos,achievements and accolades arrive along with holiday cards.. life rolls on..
The Internet is invented!
Everyone jumps first into email.. when that becomes passe'..Face Book becomes the 'NEW" next best thing for social media..
Like everyone else, I eagerly plug in names and begin searching for lost contacts, acquaintances, and friends..and I find Laney.. We communicate and she tells me how and where to find the now adult boys.. which I do.
Michael was not interested in Face Book..neither being on it or using computers. His love was his high school sweetheart, with which he had two adorable children. One of which was the exact replica of him at that age..his daughter could have passed for Maria's twin.! He had grown up, gone to college along with his wife, and after graduation, both obtained good paying jobs, built their dream home and settled into a happy married life. We are in frequent contact via all methods of contact, generously interspersed with photos of rapidly growing beautiful children..
Once I found Matthew, and rekindled our relationship..communication has been virtually non-stop! His job requires him to travel all over the world.. and frequently!! We proposed a meet up for the next time he was any where near Denver..
The meeting occurred almost a week ago.
What a joyous reunion we shared!
The meeting was at Elway's restaurant..

(We both were a bit teary and bleary eyed here!)

We spent almost four hours catching up, reminiscing, laughing and at times, quite teary.
I came away with answers I'd never expected.. but had always secretly known in my heart.. Life had not been the kindest to the boys, yet they had survived and actually thrived.. and in doing so, had become so much more than the sum total of their parents.They both are fine upstanding citizens, and leaders of their community. Above all, they are loving fathers who consider their children and their welfare the greatest of their life accomplishments.
What moved me so deeply and yet made me feel so good was the statement Matty made..He said..Mommy Lou, you did NOT have to rescue us, nor love us, and make sure we were safe.. yet you did..and you gave yourself unconditionally to us so many times when we couldn't fend for ourselves.. that I made up my mind someday to find you and to say thank you! You made such a very positive impression on me and us that I wanted to grow up to be just like you.. generous, loving and kind!"
It was so hard not to bawl like a baby right then!
It is said we reap what we sow..
and love is no different..
it grows when and where least expected.
especially when given to a child..
and is returned tenfold..
Having found Matty again..
love is...for me ... the greatest gift of all.

Today was such a glorious day here in Denver..
Our maker certainly knew what he was doing when creating the heavens..
and our beautiful planet Earth..
and I am so very fortunate to call two beautiful places my home.!
As you all know. the Florida panhandle is my home....
the next best thing to being there instead of virtually..
is in reality!
as that is not on the agenda just yet..
I can dream by reviewing past photos from there..
from my archives..
I just love this one..perfection in every way..
can you not picture yourself there...wind ruffling your hair..
as you stroll the sand.. toes making that unique crunchy, squeaky sound..
the sugary white sands of the gulf beaches is the only place I've ever heard it.

Closer to home here in Colorado,the sights were just as impressive as colorful..
