Monday, Monday!

Wow!!!
here it is Monday already...what a week almost!

Last Wednesday found me on the road with my traveling hat..
Spent Thursday nite with my friend Vickie..
the owner of  my favorite shop in Pensacola " Once upon a Time"..
arrived early afternoon for late lunch  and so enjoyed working with her in the shop..
At 5 pm, closing time.. followed her home to Gulf Breeze..
relaxed on the patio to this awesome view..

Friday morning zipped across town , all the way out to Perdido Key to meet up with my Redneck Riveria chapter of Wonderful Wacky Women.. our illustrious leader Suzy Toronto..
meeting at the Shops of Villagio to board the FloraBama bus..
Heading to Lucy Buffett's place..
Destination LuLu's at Homeport Marina..

The place was everything I'd ever heard..and more!
JUST TOTALLY AWESOME!

Food..deliciousness..check! ***** 5stars!
service!                                 ***** 5 stars again..
anything and everything..all positive..
nothing negative at all..
well only just a tiny exception.. Lucy wasn't in house..
sent her regrets..but..she was in PARIS FRANCE ,
touring with her brother....Jimmy..
yep THE JIMMY BUFFETT!
who could be mad? not us!!

after a fun day there.. returned back to our vehicles..
on my way, I stopped by the Perdido Key Visitor's Center/Chamber of Commerce to see a sculpture of a jelly fish by my friend Lyn Gentry.. Hotsands Glass artworks... so talented!!
Had heard so much about this particular piece..seeing is believing!
see for yourself!

Clicked a few shots of the beautiful Gulf of Mexico..drug my toes through the sand..said prayers for Mah Sistahs.. tossed sparklies everywhere...
Back on the road again.. heading to my friend and former neighbor Becky's place ..right next door to where I USED to live..

Remember the sunsets and sunrises?
They are still just as awesome as always..
We all were tired after a delicious  grilled dinner and desserts.. crashed early.. slept like a baby!
Saturday morning.. up early, Becky had the coffee ready..
hugs, smiles and I was out the door and on the road by 7ish!

Back to the FloraBama for the race/fun run/walk...
So many runners/walkers... and I was fortunate to be included in the group as a volunteer photographer!!!..

The participants were exhuberant and excited!
Suzy T and Jimmie Sue were ready to get the race started!

to be continued....

Sundays ,Mondays...fundays!

Today was a typical Sunday..
slept late..
awoke to kitty kisses..

and the sound of pouring rain..
tripped out to the kitchen..

turned to coffee on..
fed, fresh watered for the furbabies..
opened the kitty door access to the patio,,

braved the elements to retreive the Sunday paper..
picture me in jammies with an umbrella.. ;) !
Lingering over those first cups of coffee..

we smile, laugh, yes even giggle..
as we read the newspaper..
solving the problems of the world..
Just another Sunday morning pleasure..
Afterwards,,we plan our day..
today was to run out to his office..

while he was working on charts,
I was measuring wall space for his diplomas..
and pictures to be mounted..
then.. out to breakfast!
This is a treat as I usually prepare it at home!

Today we tried a new place..
with the best OJ ever!!

It is shipped direct from Indian River FL growers.

Tastes just like fresh squeezed!
Breakfast done, errands run..back home for Football..
Me.. working on photo editing..
finally..I need to stretch..
take a little jaunt over to the beach..
easy task now that the number of tourists have dwindled..
still a trickle tho..access is so much easier..

The surf was rough, with RED flags indicating RIP currents..
mostly folks were ignoring the warnings, swimming anyway.

Between rain squalls, the sun would shine brightly,
illuminating the BLUE sky...
and EMERALD waters...

Next, making my way back to the car,
couldn't help but notice the colorful buildings around Pier Park..
as well as the beautiful floral plantings..
Just as I was really getting into the phototaking..
the heavens opened up...
and I beat a hasty retreat back to the DRYNESS of my car...

oh well..at least fresh air, exercise and sunshine...
all were enjoyed AT THE BEACH!!
joining all these awesome folks for more fun and frivolity!

I hold in my hands....a 9/11 poem

From my dear sweet friend Maria...
I found the following poem on  www.celebrate-american-holydays-.com/9-11Poems.html

One month following the attack of 9-11, eleven year old Aaron Walsh wrote the following poem in his school notebook, trying to make sense of this horrible thing that had happened:

I Hold in My Hands

~ Aaron Walsh, 2001

I hold in my hands ...
The dust.
The dust and wreckage of the towers.
Even though I wasn't there,
I can still feel it.
It has damaged my hands with dirt.
It has damaged my heart with sorrow.
It has damaged my body with fear,
and it has damaged my life with war.

I hold in my hands ...
My life.
My life could soon be filled with war,
cruelty at its worst.
Miles away, I can hear the planes' roaring engines, gliding through the air.

I hold in my hands ...
My future.
My life ahead.
Whether it will be filled with war or peace, we will not know.
My future keeps me going from dawn to dusk.

I hold in my hands ...
Hope.
Hope for the future.
Hope for peace.
Hope for my country's freedom.
And hope for America to win this war on terrorism.

19-year-old inventor finds way to clean up the world’s oceans in under 5 years time!

Saw this article and thought to my Mermaid self, what an awesome idea!!!
now to put this prototype into action

Ocean Cleanup Array Boyan Slat 706x369 19 year old inventor finds way to clean up the worlds oceans in under 5 years time

Previously the idea of cleaning up the world’s oceans with their vast accumulations of disposed plastic material was considered an impossibility. Now a 19-year-old inventor says he and his foundation has a way to clean up the world’s oceans, and not only does he say we can do it, but that we can do it in five years time and produce a profit from it.
It is called the ‘Great Pacific Garbage Patch’ or sometimes the “Pacific Trash Vortex”, and it is a massive collection of plastic particles accumulating in the Pacific.  Other oceans have their own collections of plastic wastes as well; furthermore, most of the debris in our oceans are plastic materials that accounts for approximately 90% of all the waste debris.
Scientists have considered all manner of ways how the debris could be retrieved but there was no clear answer for it.
Now a 19-year-old inventor by the name of Boyan Slat says we can remove nearly 20 billion tons of plastic waste with his concept he calls an ocean cleanup array.  It is made from a massive series of floating booms and processing platforms that gradually suck in the floating plastic like a giant funnel.
The angle with how the array is set up allows all of the plastic to go to where the platforms processing centers are floating. At the platform processing area it would separate the naturally occurring life such as plankton an only keep the plastic materials to be recycled.

What is most impressive about the array is that once it goes operational it would clean up the oceans in only 5 years time!  He also makes a point in saying that due to the vastness of our oceans most do not know how badly polluted the oceans really are.
“One of the problems with preventive work is that there isn’t any imagery of these ‘garbage patches’, because the debris is dispersed over millions of square kilometers,” Slat says on his website. “By placing our arrays however, it will accumulate along the booms, making it suddenly possible to actually visualize the oceanic garbage patches. We need to stress the importance of recycling, and reducing our consumption of plastic packaging.”

Slat was able to come up with the idea while in school, and so he wrote a paper on his concept. Once Slat's paper was published it immediately caught the attention of many marine experts.  His paper won all manner of prizes, which included the Best Technical Design 2012 from the Delft University of Technology.
When he and others realized that the concept would work he took a leap of faith and created a non-profit organization he calls The Ocean Cleanup Foundation.  This group will focus on the goal of developing his invention, raise funds for it and make it operational as soon as possible. His concept would save numerous aquatic species of fish and help reduce PCB and DDT containments affecting all of us.  Best of all it operates on the power of the sun and by the oceans themselves.
Not only is Slat's concept self-powered, it would also be very profitable from the all the recycling, which is estimated in the amount of 500 million dollars (U.S.) per year.  According to Slat's website it "would make in fact more money than the plan would cost to execute. In other words; it's profitable."
