Wednesday wonders..

Tuesday was such a delightful day..
moderate temps.. slight breeze..
not quite as much humidity..
perfect for FINALLY getting my plants into the ground..
But..
a word of warning..
be very careful in those flower beds..
due to super wet/flooding conditions..
many critters are seeking higher ground..
such as this fella who greeted the pest control man..
he was my front door greeter!

turned out to be a common garter snake..
probably only a few days old..
they are born live in batches of 50-100!
he was maybe 9 inches long and the diameter of a pencil!
he stood his ground, snapping at the camera flash..
he was relocated to the jungle across the road!
Please be careful while in those flower beds..
someone else may be lurking under the mulch!

    Oh I am not one to spend time with a snake! But you took a great shot and he's sort of pretty in the photo, though I'm sure I wouldn't notice if he was in front of me on the doorstep. Enjoy your gardening!

    Ack! I remember all too well coming across snakes in my youth living in FL. Always scared the daylights outta me. I do love your hostas tho!

    Gorgeous photos of the sea, my favorite! One great thing about living in New Zealand is that there are no snakes!

    I am not a fan of snakes. Eww...but you got a great picture of one. I don't see snakes often, but there are times we are in areas where we need to watch for rattlesnakes. Never saw one alive, but sometimes we see dead ones along the roadside.

    I hope the little snake was not harmed. What a pretty one. If its a garter snake its harmless and I am surprised it was defensive. I have never met one who did that, they usually freeze and slide away. Hope you dont get any of the meaner ones.

    NO snakes in New Zealand? When can I move?
    I can deal with spiders but slithery creatures
    scare me.
    Just think. We have every poisonous snake there is living in Florida...with exception of a few East Asian ones.
    Sure making New Zealand look better every day.
