Pink Saturday

Many dream of April in Paris...
I prefer our nation's capitol ..the all American city of Washington D.C.
The city is rich in culture, alive with history and attractions for everyone which most are free.
To me personally, despite extreme allergies,April is perhaps the loveliest month of all.
Emerging from the wintery cloak of cold and gray, Spring debuts in the dreamiest shades of pink. Like frilly  petticoats, Japanese Cherry trees open their delicate blossoms surrounding the Tidal Basin.
In 1912, the people of Japane sent 3,020  cherry trees to the United States as a gift of friendship.
First Lady Taft and the Vicountess Chindra, wife of the Japanese Ambassador planted the first two cherry trees on the northern bank of the Tidal Basin. These two original trees are still standing today near the John Paul Jones statue at the south end of 17th Street. Workmen planted the remainder of the trees around  the Tidal Basin and East Potomac Park.!
The beauty of the blossoms is one of the most eagerly sought photographic delights.
While living in Maryland, I had the opportunity to experience  this for myself firsthand..
relatives and visitors requested this event more than any other  for visiting the city.
to sum it up in one word..
AWESOME will have to simply suffice...
(but I was heavily dosed on antihistimine and carried ample supplies of Kleenex)

Another favorite flower of mine also happens to be blooming at the same time..
