World Oceans Day

H
APPY WORLD OCEANS DAY!!!

Grayton Beach
I've enjoyed the luxury of many bodies of water in my life thus far..
played on the shores, swam, fished ,photographed..
I never tire of water..

whether it be a mere trickle in the deep woods..
later turning into a stream, to a creek, to a river..
always seeking their own..the ocean.
I have walked the beaches of both the Atlantic and pacific Oceans,
frolicked all my life from childhood and beyond..
on sugary white sands,...
romped in the waves of the Gulf of Mexico..
have sailed the Florida Straits where the Gulf and the Atlantic waters meet, mingle..
across the big pond,
beyond Gibraltar's bold welcome to the Mediterranean Sea..

onward, inward ,ferried up the Bosphorous to the Black Sea,,

always..the water..calls to me..
I answer..but with tear filled eyes..
as  stare ....

seeing beyond the diamond sparklies on the surface....
to the dangers lurking below..
I've seen pollution  from many sources..
all of which lead, in one way or another ..
back to man..
it is our duty to reverse the cyle..

beginning  right now,this very instant!
clean up our act..
stop the pollution..
whatever goes in with you..take it back out!
take your memories ..leaving footprints instead.

it's just that simple! be responsible for your actions..
just like Smokey the Bear said:

Only you can prevent a forest fire!..
Only you can prevent pollution!

never throw anything overboard..
especially single use plastics..
(styrofoam cups,plastic bottles/caps,tiny hard plastic toys.etc)...

underwater inhabitatants see it as food!
Colorful,bobbing, enticing FOOD
Especially sea turtles when seeing a floating bag...,

thinking it to be a jellyfish..
their favorite food .. they go for it..
either becoming entangled or if ingested..
literally die when the bag cannot be eliminated!

sadly it is those bits of plastic..
which are the leading causes of death of many creatures..
Other ways you can become involved to prevent pollution..
beginning on the land,....
your actions today will directly impact the oceans for better or worse tomorrow..
every little effort helps! Do your part!

  • Plant trees and shrubs.
  • Learn everything you can by going to presentations, reading, and doing research.
  • Volunteer to help out at animal shelters, humane societies, or rescue organizations.
  • Pick up garbage you see on the ground and throw it in a trash can.
  • Share what you know with others through pictures, letters, and stories.
Go now..
Enjoy your day, in your world, your way on this beautiful planet we call home!
I'm thirsty!
Let's all toast the sea with a big glass of icy cold WATER!
Cheers!

  3. Very inspiring Louie! And so sad at the same time... it breaks my heart a bit whenever I see plastic bags floating in the ocean, or beer cans on the sea bed... GRRRRRR!!!

The Blog-A-Thon is finally up and running. I'm going to go crash (only slept 4h last night and was a long trip home!) and tomorrow I'll answer the Fishy Mystery question in my Blog-A-THon entry post! You're pretty close, maybe you can figure it out before tomorrow (since we've got a time difference...) ;o)

Thanks for participating again this year! :o)

welcome to my world of salty sunkissed breezes..
where time is not measured..
linger leisurely..
sift sugary white sand between your toes..
Make and take those wonderful memories..
leaving behind..only your footprints...
