IKEA Centennial will be opening on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 @ 9:00 AM —
earlier than originally planned!"
IKEA Centennial – Grand Opening
The IKEA Centennial Grand Opening will be on Wednesday, July 27th, 2011 – probably just in time to coincide with the 2012 IKEA Catalog launch.
According to the IKEA Centennial website, “Customers can begin lining up at IKEA Centennial at 9:00 AM on Monday morning, July 25, 2011 — in advance of our July 27, 2011 opening. We will be doing something special for everyone on opening morning so you do not have to be the first, second, or third customer in line* in order to share in the fun. Keep checking for updates! * There will be no specific prize given to just the first, second, or third customer in line.
Built on 13.5 acres, the IKEA store in the Denver, Colorado area – Centennial to be exact, will have about 50 room settings and 3 complete home interiors within its 415,000 square feet. It will employ about 400 Denver area workers, will have 1500 parking spaces and will serve 500 or so in the restaurant.
IKEA Centennial Sustainability
IKEA Centennial will be the first US IKEA store to incorporate a geothermal heating/cooling system. From the January 25, 2011 press release, IKEA has this to say about the environmental sustainability of the Denver-area store,
REC Solar, one of the largest U.S. solar electric providers with more than 6,000 systems built nationwide including 16MW in thecommercial retail sector, will design, build and install this solar energy system. The 60,000-square-foot solar array will consist of a 498-kW system, built with 2,212 panels, and will produce approximately 740,000 kWh of electricity annually for the store, the equivalent to reducing 586 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) – equal to the emissions of 102 cars or providing electricity for 64 homes yearly (calculating clean energy equivalents at www.epa.gov/cleanenergy/energy-resources/calculator.html). This effort by IKEA will contribute to the local utility’s renewable portfolio goals and will lower the carbon intensity of the electrical grid.IKEA U.S. already has solar energy systems in Brooklyn, NY, Pittsburgh, PA and Tempe, AZ, and is installing systems at eight existing locations in California and two stores on the East Coast. Additionally, IKEA Centennial will be the first U.S. IKEA store to integrate a geothermal component as part of its heating/cooling system.“We are excited about furthering our sustainability commitment with solar panels on the future Centennial store,” said Doug Greenholz, IKEA U.S. real estate manager. “Similar to geothermal, solar energy will reduce greatly the new store’s energy costs and carbon footprint as well as contribute to our vision of creating a better everyday life for the many.”

You know how I love dark chocolate, right? Well, believe it or not, the IKEA dark chocolate bars they sell by the register are my favorite!!!!!
